Declaration

We would like to petition the Board of Directors to create a Sustainability Task Force. The purpose of this Task Force will be to promote cost effective sustainable issues for the benefit of all UW-students, in the FY 11-13 biennium.  Some of the goals are to network among UW-systems about environmental issues and exchange knowledge and ideas, push for cost-effective energy efficient buildings on campuses that will save money in the long term, and encouraging a change in campus policy to favor renewable energy on campus in place of coal and oil. We plan on working with our university administrations, student governments, student organizations, and the state to push for legislation for renewable energy and efficiency in our facilities. We would like to have a referendum, if needed, to push to buy renewable energy.  We would do this by writing legislation and resolutions through our student governments within the next 12 months.

We feel this taskforce will be a good first step to pushing for sustainable initiatives on our universities and campuses; therefore, we would like your approval of this Sustainability Task Force.
